How to Enter NFT Traits During Minting

Posted on 2026-09-03

NFT Traits should be specified at the time of minting. Once an NFT has been minted, its established Traits remain unchanged, as they form part of the NFT’s recorded identity and characteristics.

Ownership Rights, which are part of the seven Categories of NFT Traits, may be treated separately where their terms permit amendment or updating.

(Click on EdaFace NFT Trait Categories for more information on the EdaFace Seven NFT Trait Categories).

During minting, NFT Trait information may generally be entered manually in two principal areas:

1. Descriptive Area

2. Property (NFT Trait) Area

The Descriptive Area should contain a concise description of the NFT, while the Property (NFT Trait) Area should contain the specific Traits that identify, classify, describe, or otherwise provide information about the NFT.

The following provides guidance on entering each category of NFT Trait.

1. How to Enter Taxonomy Traits

Taxonomy Traits establish the NFT’s formal position within the EdaFace Taxonomy.

Where applicable, the following Taxonomy should be specified in the Property (NFT Trait) Area:

Collection → Species → Generation → Edition → Variety

Example

Collection: EdaFace Mascots

Species: Eddie

Generation: Genesis

Edition: Universal

Variety: 01

The names used at different Taxonomy levels may be the same where appropriate. For example, a Collection, Species, Generation, Edition, or Variety may legitimately share the same name if that name accurately represents each respective level.

The applicable Taxonomy should be clearly and consistently entered so that the collector can identify the NFT’s exact position within its Collection.

2. How to Enter Descriptive Traits

The NFT’s general description should be entered in the Descriptive Area.

The description should be concise, clear, informative, and professionally written. As a general guideline, keeping it under 30 words is preferable where possible.

The description should communicate the essential identity, character, purpose, or distinguishing feature of the NFT without unnecessarily filling the available space with excessive information.

Example

Universal Eddie is a friendly EdaFace Mascot who represents accessibility, curiosity, and optimism, and welcomes you to the EdaFace ecosystem.

3. How to Enter Behavioral Traits

Behavioral Traits describe distinctive ways in which an NFT behaves, acts, moves, speaks, responds, or expresses itself.

Only significant or distinctive behavioral characteristics should be entered as Traits. There is no need to list every minor action, movement, or characteristic of the NFT.

For example:

Personality: Optimistic

Voice: Male

Movement: Animated

Speech: Welcoming

The purpose is to provide useful information while keeping the NFT’s Traits concise, orderly, and professional. Excessive listing of behavioral characteristics can make the NFT’s Property section appear cluttered and less professional.

4. How to Enter Rarity Traits

The NFT’s Rarity should be entered in the Property (NFT Trait) Area where a rarity classification has been established.

Examples

Rarity: Common

Rarity: Rare

Rarity: Legendary

Rarity should accurately reflect the creator’s established rarity system and should be applied consistently throughout the Collection.

Rarity is an NFT attribute and not a Taxonomy level. It should therefore not be substituted for Collection, Species, Generation, Edition, or Variety.

5. How to Enter Utility Traits

Where an NFT provides specific benefits, functions, access, or privileges, these should be specified under Utility Traits.

Examples

Utility 1: Event Access

Utility 2: Membership

Utility 3: EDA Reward

Utility 4: Exclusive Content

Only utilities that are genuinely associated with the NFT should be specified. Where detailed conditions apply, the creator should provide a clear reference to the applicable terms or documentation.

6. How to Enter Technical Traits

Technical information is part of the automatically generated NFT metadata.

Examples include:

• Blockchain: BNB Smart Chain

• Blockchain Identification Number: BIN 007000001

• Contract Address: [Contract Address]

• Mint Date: [Date]

• Token Standard: ERC-721 / BEP-721

In other words, the technical information is automatically generated by the blockchain and displayed by the EdaFace NFT Marketplace.

However, although the Token Standard and Mint Date form part of the NFT’s minted metadata, the EdaFace NFT Marketplace does not automatically display these two items.

If the Creator wants the Token Standard and Mint Date to be displayed on the EdaFace NFT Marketplace, they must be manually entered in the NFT Traits (Properties) area at the time of minting.

For example:

• Token Standard: BEP-721

• Mint Date: 15 June 2026

Therefore, Creators who want these details to be visible to collectors on the marketplace should ensure that they are manually specified as NFT Traits during the minting process.

7. How to Enter Ownership Rights

On EdaFace, Ownership Rights, which are part of the NFT Traits, are classified into:

• Digital Collectible Rights (DCR)

• Tokenized Asset Rights (TAR)

(Click on EdaFace NFT Trait Categories for more information on the EdaFace Seven NFT Trait Categories).

Where detailed Ownership Rights apply, it is preferable to maintain a dedicated page containing the complete rights, terms, and conditions, rather than attempting to include all the information directly in the NFT Traits. This keeps the NFT Traits clear, organized, and uncluttered, while allowing the complete Ownership Rights to be properly documented and readily accessible.

The dedicated page may be hosted on the creator’s website, a social media platform, or another appropriate online resource.

The URL of the dedicated page can then be entered as the relevant NFT Traits (Properties).

When entering the URL, ensure that it begins with “http://” or “https://”. This enables the EdaFace NFT Marketplace to recognise the entry as a URL and present it as a clickable link, allowing the collector to access the dedicated page containing the complete Ownership Rights, terms, and conditions.

Example

Ownership Rights:

https://example.com/ownership-rights

The dedicated page should clearly specify whether the NFT carries Digital Collectible Rights (DCR), Tokenized Asset Rights (TAR), or both, as applicable.

Important Minting Principle

Creators should carefully review all NFT Traits before completing the minting process.

The Taxonomy should be properly established, descriptive information should be concise, relevant characteristics should be selected as Traits, and applicable rights and supporting information should be clearly documented.

A well-organized NFT should therefore present its information in a manner that is:

Clear • Consistent • Concise • Professional • Recognizable

This ensures that the NFT is not only properly classified by its creator but is also easy for collectors to identify, understand, recognize, and evaluate.
